Pneumatic Actuators

Pneumatic actuators use compressed air to operate the valve. The power consumption of a pneumatic actuator isn’t about direct electrical power like the electric ones. Instead, it’s related to the energy needed to compress the air. Running an air compressor takes a fair bit of electricity. A small – capacity air compressor that can supply air for a single pneumatic butterfly valve actuator might use around 500 – 1000 watts. Hydraulic Actuators

Actuation Speed

How fast you want the valve to open or close also impacts power consumption. If you need a rapid actuation, the actuator has to work at a higher intensity.

For example, in a fire – suppression system where the valve needs to open quickly, the actuator is designed for high – speed operation. An electric actuator in such a system might consume more power during the rapid actuation process compared to an actuator that opens or closes a valve slowly, like in a normal water – supply system where speed isn’t as critical.
